No, whilst we have Franchisees within our network who are qualified Bakers, this is not a requirement to become a Franchisee with us. Our Franchisees have come from all works of life, from tradespeople or a corporate background, they have made the transition to small business owners.
Our expectation is that our Franchisees are owner-operators, working hands on within their business on a full time basis. Our Franchisees are the face of their business, building relationships with their customers and their local community.
You will work hand in hand with the Franchisor to uphold the brand initiatives and standards.
The cost to purchase an existing bakery is dependent on a number of factors including the length of the lease, the franchise agreement term, past performance, plant and equipment value and associated good will. The purchase price of an existing bakery is determined by the seller and varies between each business.
The establishment costs for new bakeries will sit between $500,000 and $600,000 on average, plus working capital.
As an established franchise system we are accredited with a number of banks across New Zealand. As a general rule, a bank may lend up to 60% of the value of the purchase price; the purchaser is then required to fund the balance through cash or equity in assets.

Our royalty fee is 7% plus GST of Net Sales and our advertising contribution fee is 2% plus GST of Net Sales, payable weekly.
To ensure that you are fully equipped to successfully operate your bakery, we require you to undertake 16 weeks of full time training. You will need to show competency in all modules including baking, to become a Bakers Delight Franchisee.
You will be mentored by an experienced Franchisee from our network and have the support of our training and development team to gain the relevant skills to run your business.
Yes, to become a multi-site operator you will need to meet the selection criteria, undertake additional training and be approved by Bakers Delight.
